"Plastic Messiah (detail)," mixed media on linen over panel, by Clark Goolsby.
Now for the moment you've all been waiting for—our summer 2011 playlist! With this fresh sonic lineup comes the chance to take stock of our recent favorites...15 steamy, sunny tracks' worth. Here, we focused on curating some offbeat and dark dance jams from around the globe (dancing is pretty much our favorite summer sport). We have everything from British soul singers to a moody L.A. rapper to a New York art dance band, and then top it all off, we've added the weirdest Britney Spears cover you're ever likely to hear. Yeah, we suppose it's your typically strange R29 selection of the bizarro world of Billboard hits. But's summertime, so soak up a little sunshine and download our ultimate summer soundtrack—no SPF necessary.

Adele—Rolling in the Deep (Jamie XX Shuffle) - Single
"Rolling in the Deep (Jamie XX Shuffle)" [MP3]
Adele reimagined as a warped gospel songstress in a Jamaican dancehall. Soulful and dancefloor-approved. Buy this album
Peter Bjorn and John—Gimme Some
"Second Chance" [MP3]
After the fanfare over "Young Folks," very little has been written about PB&J's subsequent records. This is our favorite track from their latest. Buy this album
Katy B—We Love Dub
"Katy on a Mission" [MP3]
This Katy B banger is an excellent pop take on the dubstep that dominates British dance music right now. We'd love to see her make it big Stateside. Buy this album
XXXY—You Always Start It/Ordinary Things - Single
"You Always Start It" [MP3]
Speaking of dubstep, XXXY is one of our favorite producers to emerge recently. It definitely fills a gap left when James Blake went singer-songwriter on us (not that we're complaining). Buy this album
Radiohead—The King of Limbs
"Bloom" [MP3]
Radiohead wasn't the first rock band to include dance music in their repertoire, but they're still the best at fully integrating it into their own sound. This standout from "King of Limbs" is a great example. Buy this album

Fleet Foxes—Helplessness Blues
"Battery Kinzie" [MP3]
This reminds us of one of those upbeat Simon & Garfunkel jams we grew up listening to and loving. Simply radiant vocal harmonies. Buy this album
The Antlers—Burst Apart (Deluxe Version)
"I Don't Want to Love" [MP3]
From the loping drumbeat to the shimmering guitars to Peter Silberman's lovely falsetto, we love everything about this track. Buy this album
"Till the World Ends (Britney Spears Cover)" [MP3]
Post-breakdown, Britney has been the source of some truly warped and underrated pop gems. SALEM takes this trend three steps further.
Gold Panda—Lucky Shiner
"You" [MP3]
If we're a bit Brit-heavy on this mix, you can't really blame us. There's basically a new single from that tiny island that changes our life weekly. Buy this albumgold panda
The Weeknd—House of Balloons
"The Morning" [MP3]
We can't lie—this is pretty much late-night bedroom R&B heard through a drug haze. We're hooked. Buy this album

Gang Gang Dance—Eye Contact
"MindKilla" [MP3]
This is pretty much one of our favorite bands, and all of their strengths are on display hear—huge synths, stuttering drums, and left turns galore. Buy this album
Rick Ross—Teflon Don
"Aston Martin Music (featuring Drake and Chrisette Michele)" [MP3]
This is all over the radio, and for good reason. I mean, who doesn't want to drive around Miami in a convertible listening to this? Drake steals the show, of course. Buy this album
"Abducted" [MP3]
A sweet, soaring indie rock song about abduction. How could this not be on our recent playlist? Buy this album
The Dream—Love King
"Veteran" [MP3]
How many straight playlists have featured The-Dream? What can we say? We love R&B, and The-Dream is pretty much a summer anthem. Buy this album
