Good news for the girls! Our hats are off to Estée Lauder Companies who, in partnership with Sotheby's, will be auctioning off some of the estate jewelry previously belonging to Evelyn and Estée Lauder, as reported by WWD. All of the proceeds of the auction (estimated at around 13 million dollars — that's some major bling, people) will go to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, which was founded by Evelyn Lauder in 1993 (Lauder also created the now-ubiquitous pink ribbon to raise awareness for the disease).
The collection — which includes a pink diamond ring weighing 6.54 carats — will travel to Geneva and London before returning to New York to be exhibited and then auctioned. Acting chairman of BCRF and chairman emeritus of Estée Lauder Companies, Leonard A. Lauder (son of Estée and husband of the late Evelyn), was proud to announce the auction, declaring that "[the BCRF] mission is to help women around the world so that one day this disease will be a thing of the past.”

According to Mr. Lauder, donating the jewels to auction is right in line with the legacy of the Lauder family: "I know that both my mother Estée and my dear wife Evelyn would be pleased that these items are being sold to raise funds for The Breast Cancer Research Foundation." (Women's Wear Daily)
Despite admirable gains by BCRF in raising research funds (to date, the foundation has raised more than $385 million since its inception), breast cancer is still the number two cancer killing women today — second only to lung cancer. This month, BCRF announced it they will help fund 197 scientists that are working towards new advances in breast cancer treatment. Breast Cancer Awareness month may have just ended, but if you love your ladies, we encourage you to make a donation right here, because what could be more beautiful than helping out your fellow woman?
