The Ultimate Guide To The Fourth Of July, Miami-Style

Although Miami isn’t a city known for stars and stripes and we boast more colors than just red, white, and blue (our nickname is Northern Cuba after all...), we have to admit: Flag-printed bikinis are simply tops! While BBQs, sparklers, and boxed fireworks from across the state line (the best ones come from Georgia...duh!) are standard fare, make sure you take advantage of the day with some of Miami's most festive spots to find food, fun, and fireworks. For this 263rd year of freedom, we've sussed out nine celebrations that're perfect for however it is you celebrate. Eat, drink, light some things on fire, and be sure to party in the U.S. of A — the Miami way.
We now have one more reason to be in lust with the Mondrian — a 4th of July soirée complete with BBQ by Asia de Cuba (think burgers and hot dogs along with Cuban BBQ chicken...which is, yes, a thing), “Frozen 4th” concoctions, and DJs Jean Mark and Arlette Carlin on the turntables. Oh, and don't forget the stellar view of the fireworks.
When: Noon; $50 minimum consumption fee.
Where: The Mondrian Miami, 1100 West Avenue; 305-514-1500.
One Nation Pool Party at Shore Club
Nothing says Fourth of July in Miami like a pool party. At SoBe's Shore Club, from noon until sundown, enjoy BBQ bites from Terrazza, frozen cocktails, domestic beers (you didn’t think you could get away with a Corona, did you?), and beats by DJ Triarchy and RS^2.
When: Noon to sundown; $20.
Where: Shore Club, 1901 Collins Avenue; 305-695-3226.
About the only thing better than backyard fireworks are beachside fireworks...accompanied by patriotic body painting (is there any other kind?), America-themed trivia contests, beer pong, and an all-day happy hour. We pledge allegiance to Clevelander.
When: 11:00 a.m.
Where: Clevelander, 1020 Ocean Drive; 305-532-4006.

Mayfair Hotel & Spa’s Rooftop Celebration
We usually cringe at the phrase all-you-can-eat, but if it’s a poolside buffet at the Mayfair, we’ll make a serious exception. And best of all, you have an ample view of the Peacock Park fireworks, so plan accordingly.
When: 6 to 9 p.m., $18.95.
Where: Mayfair Hotel & Spa, 3000 Florida Avenue; 305-441-0000
Brother Jimmy’s BBQ
Sailor Jerry may have introduced the world to the best sailor tattoos eva, but this 4th of July the storied rum and Brother Jimmy’s BBQ will be landlocked for an event that’s bringing the south, well, even more south. Enjoy a complimentary pig roast and cocktails, as well as a sneak peak at the Brickell’s newest BBQ joint. And what's more American than some authentic New Orleans soul and zydeco, played live? Maybe apple pie. Maybe.
When: 4 to 10 p.m.
Where: Brother Jimmy's, The Courtyard at Mary Brickell Village, 900 South Miami Avenue, 786-360-3650.
Food Trucks At Hammocks Community Park
Who needs the boring old indoors and one type of food to nosh on? With about 15 food trucks camped out at Hammocks (including some that're coming down just for the event), you can pick and taste from vendors like Clarabelle’s Cupcakes and Yellow Submarine.
When: 6 to 9 p.m.
Where: Hammocks Community Park, 9885 Hammocks Boulevard.

The Village at Gulfstream Park
If you're stuck with an underage bunch this Fourth, Gulfstream Park has plenty of family friendly activities and fun, especially during its elaborate firework display. This is the holiday at its most traditional: face-painting, balloon animals, and flag-waving.
When: 4 to 9 p.m.
Where: The Village at Gulfstream Park; 501 South Federal Highway; 954-378-0900.
Peacock Garden Café
If you want the ultimate view of the fireworks at Peacock Park (as well as some gastronomic satisfaction) reserve a spot at Peacock Garden Café. The outdoor patio gives you a great view, plus its Red, White, and Blue Sangria will be specially priced to have you celebrating America in liquid form all night.
When: 4 to 9 p.m.
Where: Peacock Garden Café, 2889 McFarlane Road in Coconut Grove; 305-774-3332
Area 31
Can’t decide what fireworks to watch? Or maybe you just want to watch them all? Area 31 sports a breathtaking view of fireworks displays throughout the Magic City and is offering discounted bar bites and sips during the evening. Best of all worlds, we say.
When: 5 to 10 p.m.
Where: EPIC Hotel, 270 Biscayne Boulevard Way; 305-424-5234.
