An Immigration Reform Movement To (Literally) Tip Your Hat To

Ever since Diane Keaton in Annie Hall, women have acquired an entirely new appreciation for menswear and, more specifically, the fedora. But, this iconic accessory stands for more than just the liberation of women’s style — it has now become a symbol of support for immigration reform for women.
Last Thursday, immigration reform advocates of We Belong Together released a new photo series of celebrities, including Christy Turlington and Julianne Moore, called “Fedoras for Fairness" shot by Albert Watson. Highlighting the needs of legislative reform for immigrant women, the campaign also includes a video featuring personal stories and calls to action from the famous participants directed by John Huba.
Keep in mind, while the Senate will debate and vote in the coming weeks, Congress is poised to vote on immigration reform this year. We Belong Together is urging Congress to support a bill that fixes our immigration system and provides a pathway to citizenship for millions of immigrants, as well as legislation that treats women and LGBT families fairly. And, it can start with something as simple as a hat.
“We are gratified that so many talented women and men from stage and screen have chosen to stand up and speak out at this critical moment in the debate over immigration reform,” said Vivien Labaton, co-chair of We Belong Together. “Like so many Americans, they believe that now is the time to pass legislation that creates a pathway to citizenship for 11 million immigrants and treats women and families fairly.”
Watch the video first, then, do your part (and show off your newly purchased headgear for summer), share your photo on Twitter with the hashtag #fairdora.
