While we're not always willing to admit when we're tearing up (seriously, it's allergy season!), last night, we weren't alone in feeling a little weepy. At the annual New Yorkers For Children Fall Gala, there was nary a dry eye in the house. Guests witnessed moving testimonials from talented teens who've benefited from the charity, which focuses on providing young people in foster-care programs with college scholarships, tutoring programs, job training, and the like, that nurture their intellect and give them the tools to become stable and successful adults.
Sitting with the C.E.O of Longchamp, along with power-publicist Vanessa von Bismarck, we learned firsthand just how much the initiatives make a transformative difference in these oft-neglected kids lives — and talked to our table-mates about how friggin' lucky we have it (after singing along to Marc Cohn's particularly stirring rendition of "Walking In Memphis," we were all feeling appropriately emo). The fash-pack was out in full effect to lend their support — we chatted to Lily Kwong about her upcoming R29/Ferragamo video (stay tuned, literally), hit the dance floor with social media queen Erika Bearman, and admired the abs on DANNIJO's Danielle Snyder. Despite the torrential rain and fist-clenching traffic caused by Obama's burgeoning BFF-ship with Jay and Bey (sorry, Sandy Kenyon, but your movie reviews are worse than Lindsay Lohan's driving skills), learning how far these New York "children" have come — and seeing our favorite people cheering 'em on (superficial aside — there were some inspiring dresses, too) is a needed reminder of how much more we can give back this fall. Click through to see the chicly charitable girls and guys, then get involved with us, won't you?
