Beauty-Product Combos That Have MAJOR Chemistry

Beyoncé and Jay Z, Jim and Pam, peanut butter and jelly: Sometimes, when you take two great things and put them together, they become even more powerful. The same goes for certain beauty products. Honed over years of backstage banter, snooping on shoots, and countless conversations with A-list alchemists (i.e. makeup artists, hairdressers, and facialists), we've collected some stellar recipes for our repertoire. Here are the craziest — and most effective — cosmetic combinations, from facial mists to hair masks to nude lipstick.

For A Decongested-Skin Fix: Coconut Oil + Dr. Weil Mega-Mushroom Skin Relief Face Mask + Environ B-Active Sebumasque
Do you have dry skin, but are also breaking out? We’ve discovered an apothecary-worthy solution: coconut oil, Environ B-Active Sebumasque (a clay-based mask that harnesses the well-known exfoliating properties of salicylic acid to slough away dead skin and reduce pore size), and Dr. Weil's Mega-Mushroom Skin Relief Face Mask, mixed together, become the ultimate moisturizing, purifying, and soothing face-fest. Blend the three together, apply to clean skin before bed, and wash off in the morning with warm (not hot) water so the clay dissolves. You'll start your day with skin that is decongested, softened up, and less red.

For Moisturized & Sweet-Smelling Hair & Skin: Caudalie Divine Oil + Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse
This recipe — made with two oils that contain powerful antioxidants to help protect hair and skin — was originally created for a colleague who wanted a fragrant fix. Take a few drops each of Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse and Caudalie Divine Oil, and work the mixture through wet hair and onto your body. Air-dry for subtly perfumed waves that get better as the night goes on and a gleaming décolletage that smells, frankly, amazing. If you love baths, mix equal parts and pour into running water, and you’ll find there’s nothing more relaxing than being cocooned in your favorite scents.

For Prolonging Platinum: Rum + Egg Yolk + Diptyque Vinaigre De Toilette
Anyone who has taken the platinum plunge knows the sweet agony of the halo effect. But, you can forgo the tri-monthly touchups with our colorist-approved mix. Rub in protein-rich egg yolk and rum (yep, rum!) after washing, leave it in for five minutes, and then rinse with Diptyque’s Vinaigre de Toilette. The unique combination will freshen any brassy tones and scent the hair beautifully. Just be aware: Overusing a protein-based treatment can cause breakage. Stick to no more than twice a month.

For Instant Skin Radiance: Weleda Skin Food + Tarte Clean Slate Flawless 12-Hr Perfecting Primer
What would a radiant, moonlit complexion be without a bit of help from a strategically applied cream? Weleda Skin Food (two tubes are sold every minute, by the way) and Tarte Clean Slate Flawless 12-Hr Perfecting Primer combine to form a magic concoction for ethereally highlighting cheekbones, browbones, and lids.

For Smudge-Proof Eyeliner: Lancôme LExtreme Waterproof Mascara + Bobbi Brown Notorious Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner + Noir Cosmetics High Precision Eyeliner Brush
You can perfect the art of "don't care" beauty — smudgy smoky eyes and a general air of insouciance — by actually not caring much at all, and letting these products do the work. Mix Bobbi Brown’s Notorious Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner with a tiny bit of Lancôme L’Extreme Waterproof Mascara in Noir Stretch on the back of your hand, and apply with an ultra-thin eyeliner brush for extra staying power. Repeat for more oomph, and a smoldering look that won't budge or melt. Smudge slightly for a cool-girl look.

For The Ultimate Primer: Heaven by Deborah Mitchell Bee Venom Mask + Cecilia Wong Rose Serum Spray
Mixing these two new super-products (Duchess Kate uses Heaven by Deborah Mitchell’s Bee Venom Mask as a flawless primer for foundation, just FYI) is a quick trick that'll turn skin into a luxe pre-foundation base for marathon makeup staying power and luminosity.

For A Dewy Glow: Georgia Louise Lift & Sculpt Butterfly Stone + Georgia Louise Sleeping Beauty Oil + Tatcha Aburatorigami Blotting Papers
After a night of a few too many drinks, just one more cocktail in the morning is all you need to get rid of that “I stayed up too late” skin. Don’t worry: We're not talking about hair of the dog. This concoction, a mixture of Georgia Louise’s antioxidant-rich Sleeping Beauty Oil and the genius rose-quartz Lift & Sculpt Butterfly Stone, will help drain away any facial bloat. Simply apply to your face, and blot excess oil with Tatcha Aburatorigami papers for a fresh-from-the-facialist glow that retains the skin’s moisture, without leaving a trace of grease.

For Perky Skin & A Sprightly Mind: Rosemary + Sea Salt + Chamomile + Mint
Facial mists are having a major moment, and we’ve found a DIY version that celebrates our current obsession. Take a big handful of sea salt, 10 sprigs of mint, 10 sprigs of rosemary, and a handful of chamomile flowers: There is no better all-enveloping floral scent. The subsequent compliments on our aroma (there have been quite a few, we tell you) are a testament to the loveliness of this concoction. Bonus(es): Mint is great for water retention, rosemary revs up the metabolism, and chamomile can soothe frayed nerves.

For Perfect Nude Lips: NARS Lipstick in Honolulu Honey + Dior Addict Fluid Stick in Aventure
Finding just the right “natural” lip color is no easy task. Well, this combo might just make your search a little easier, no matter your skin tone. Take NARS Lipstick in Honolulu Honey — which has a satin finish that looks like a golden concealer, but somehow glides on sheerly so you can build up to a desired intensity — and mix it with a dab of Dior Addict Fluid Stick in Aventure. Poof: Just like magic, the shine brings out the warm undertones in the beige, creating a vibrant, beautiful color.
