There are models and then there are MODELS. Kasia Struss is of the second variety. Her cheekbones, widely spaced almond eyes, high brows and sculpted lips are ridiculously gorgeous.

Note: Kasia is from Poland, & that reminds me of a Polish designer that I met last year in Berlin. He makes garments out of a material called Tyvek which looks and feels exactly like paper. His brand is called UEG, an abbreviation of "usa e getta" which means "use and discard" in Italian. Lots of interesting stuff coming out of Poland these days… I feel a trip to Warsaw coming on.

Note: Hair by the talented Teddy Charles at Art + Commerce .

I recently did a private runway show at the New York Public Library (an amazing venue!) and managed to snap a few of my favorite faces behind the scenes. One of the things that I've always found fascinating about runway is using the exact same color elements on completely different looking models.

It's impossible not to be enamored with the lovely musician, actor, director and muse, Soko. She recently traded her dark tresses for platinum blonde and was kind enough to come spend the afternoon with me in the studio.

Click here to see Soko's first Beauty Is Boring post.

Note: To get this deconstructed lip look, use your finger to smudge dark lipstick on the center of your lips. Rub lips together to blend the color. Then eat, drink and kiss until it's worn off. Do not re-apply.

The day that I took this photo, BEAUTY IS BORING was a background thought — nothing concrete, just a little idea that kept bouncing around. Charlotte was generous enough to loan me her amazing face to test out the vintage Polaroid camera I had just picked up. We did a quick make-up look, shot a few images and that was that. A few days later, as I was scanning in the images, something clicked in my brain and BEAUTY IS BORING was born.

Charlotte loved the idea of doing a look inspired by the glitz and glam of the Studio 54 era.

Icy cool silver eyes and pale pink lips were the perfect contrast to the summer heat, when this photo was taken.

There is something inherently sophisticated about Rachael's beauty. She has a modern version of the icy blond good looks that Alfred Hitchcock immortalized in his films. Think Tippi Hedren in The Birds, Grace Kelly in Rear Window or Kim Novak in Vertigo. Rather than opt for a vintage makeup style (tempting, especially with Hitchcock on the brain!), we decided to play with neutral tones of tan and bronze for a seriously sexy red carpet look.

Dior 5 Couleurs in Rosy Tan, $60, available at Dior; Chanel Le Crayon Khol in Noir, $28, available at Chanel; Chanel Inimitable Mascara in Noir, $30, available at Chanel; Anastasia Brow Wiz in Ash Blonde, $21, available at Anastasia; Hourglass Femme Rouge Lipstick in Grace, $30, available at Hourglass; Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer in Porcelain, $43, available at Laura Mercier; Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage in SC-1, $32, available at Laura Mercier.

Heather Marks is one of the best beauty faces in the business, for her many credits check out her model profile on New York Magazine. She also happens to be a very cool, down to earth girl and a total pleasure to work with.

Note: Heather didn't go platinum blond and chop off her hair (at least she hadn't when I last saw her). This is a wig made by a fantastic and very well known hairstylist whose name I can't reveal but has promised to make an appearance on Beauty Is Boring in the future.

MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack, $16, available at MAC; NARS Eyeliner Pencil in Mambo, $22, available at NARS; Chanel Inimitable Mascara in Noir, $30, available at Chanel; Anastasia Brow Wiz in Ash Blonde, $21, available at Anastasia; MAC Lip Pencil in Burgundy, $15, available at MAC; Dior Rouge Lipstick in Zinnia Red, $32, available at Dior; Tom Ford Cheek Color in Ravish, $56, available at Nordstrom; YSL Touche Eclat in 01 Luminous Radiance, $40, available at Sephora.

I've always loved the 1920s: The look was sexy, a bit gothic, playful and innocent! It was a decade of decadence and social change. Along with the right to vote, women began to openly display an independence that was shocking given the conventions of the previous era. Gone were the corsets, the ornate hats and long hair twisted into intricate updos. Chic women of the time — like Lee Miller and Coco Chanel — opted for a menswear twist on style that was reflected in their hair cuts. Today, the idea that a hair cut or shift in hemline could be revolutionary is almost laughable. But, back then, it was an outright statement of defiance. Mariko's delicate features and Louise Brooks inspired bob lend themselves perfectly to this 1920s look!

Armani Eyes to Kill in Lust Red, $33, available at Armani; Armani Eyes to Kill in White Punch, $33, available at Armani; Armani Maestro Eye Shadow in Shade 5, $30, available at Armani; Armani Smooth Silk Eye Pencil in Black, $29, available at Armani; Hourglass Film Noir Mascara, $28, available at Hourglass; MAC Lip Pencil in Burgundy, $15, available at MAC; Rouge D'Armani Lipstick in #604, $32, available at Armani; Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation in Cream Ivory, $45, available at Laura Mercier; Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage in SC-3, $32, available at Laura Mercier; Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Powder, $35, available at Laura Mercier.
