Beauty Brands Just Made Your Jem And The Holograms Fantasy Real

A Jem and the Holograms film adaptation is hitting theaters on October 23, and to truly tap into all the nostalgic excitement, beauty brands are giving fans a way to channel their favorite '80s-cartoon average-girl-turned-rock star. Manic Panic is coming out with a collection of semi-permanent dyes in a rainbow of Jem-inspired shades — they're matched exactly to the Holograms' hair colors. Sure, rainbow hair has become more mainstream these days (our mothers definitely did not approve of pink strands when we were eight years old), but this is still pretty cool, if you ask us. You can choose from pink if Jem is more your jam, orange-red if you're a keyboardist Kimber fan, purple if you jell with Shana's drummer vibes, or turquoise if you're into Aja and her guitar skills. Jem and Kimber's shades also glow under a black light, so you can really embody all things '80s. Manic Panic isn't the only brand jumping on the throwback bandwagon — Sephora is also going back in time with a line of Jem and the Holograms-inspired makeup. The four-piece collection will include an eyeshadow palette ($39) with 24 shades ranging from brights to smoky neutrals in matte, shimmer, and glitter finishes; a five-piece liquid lip set ($25) with color names like Hot Pink, Eggplant, Mauve, and Pinky Nude, and an exclusive Glitter Gloss Topcoat; an iridescent, bright-pink lipstick ($16); and a compact mirror ($18) — all of which will come in vintage, graphic packaging. "Our special relationship with Hasbro has allowed us to bring to life a unique and covetable cosmetics collection that embodies the vibrant color and holographic effects that are iconic to Jem and the Holograms," says Beth Hayes, VP of merchandising for Sephora. "We are so excited to share our beauty interpretation of the brand with our clients, many of whom will have grown up with [the show], as well as helping introduce it to a new generation of truly outrageous fans." Both lines will be available in October, so if you're stumped about what you should be for Halloween, we think Sephora and Manic Panic just helped make the decision for you. Extra points if you and your clique go as the Holograms and the Misfits. And before you ask, no, the Synergy computer and projector earrings are not included in either collection. But if one of you wants to build them for us, we'll gladly throw you some funds. Kickstarter, anyone?
