We lost a comedy legend when Joan Rivers passed away on September 4. This morning, her daughter Melissa spoke publicly about her mother for the first time since Joan's death. Melissa paid tribute to her mother at The Hollywood Reporter's 2014 Women in Entertainment breakfast. Her touching words received a standing ovation.
"She was willing to say what others were thinking. She thought of herself as a comic and had to be funnier than everyone else. She just wanted to do her job and that was to make people laugh," People reported Melissa said.
"If my mother were here this morning she would not only be grateful and proud, but she would be beyond herself. On behalf of my mother, thank you so, so much for this wonderful honor," she concluded.
Sarah Silverman also honored Joan Rivers with a video tribute, which touched on how much Joan loved her daughter.
Yesterday, the depths of Rivers' generosity were revealed in her will. She left a large portion of her fortune to her favorite charities, which included Guide Dogs for the Blind, the Jewish Guild for the Blind, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and the Simon Wiesenthal Center. (People)
