Bronies Rejoice: A My Little Pony Movie Is Finally Happening

College-aged dudes with a special affinity for pink ponies jumped for joy today, after Hasbro announced plans to bring My Little Pony to the big screen.
The popular '80s toy line and entertainment franchise has found new life thanks to BronyCon, an annual Baltimore convention devoted to the candy-colored equines. While My Little Pony is heavily geared towards tweenage girls, 85% of attendees at the 2013 convention were men whose average age was 21. These men take cosplay to brave new heights by dressing up like their favorite ponies.
Hasbro is no doubt aware of the My Little Pony resurgence, and will be looking to cash in with what will be the toy giant's fourth film franchise. It already struck box office gold with Transformers and G.I. Joe, but totally whiffed on Battleship..

Despite their shaky track record, studios are all in on trying to turn toy/board game-based movies into a superhero-like craze. Ouija is due in theaters later this week, and a Jem and the Holograms adaptation is set for next year. My Little Pony won't hit theaters until 2017.
Plot details for the new film have yet to be revealed, but it's expected to take a major cue from the hit TV show My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic, which follows a unicorn named Twilight Sparkle and her besties, who all reside in the magical kingdom, Equestria.
