HBO's The Leftovers Full Trailer Is Here & It's Crazy

HBO is on a bit of a hot streak, and after watching the jaw-dropping full-length trailer for the upcoming post-apocalyptic drama The Leftovers, it looks like it has another surefire hit on its hands.
Based on Tom Perrotta's eponymous 2011 book, The Leftovers examines what happens when 2% of the world's population just vanishes into thin air. The trailer is full of ominous clues about how the world has changed after the rapture-like events, and cults, suicide, sex, and random acts of violence look like they're all the rage. Some observers have been hesitant to declare The Leftovers television's next great drama because creator Damon Lindelof was also the man behind Lost, one of the most divisive and puzzled over series in the history of television.
But, while Lost became too wrapped up in the mechanisms of its own mystery, The Leftovers is a show more concerned with how the cataclysmic event affects those left behind, according to actress Amanda Warren, who plays the town of Mapleton's Mayor Lucy Warburton. "We're focusing more on how folks have coped with the event," she told us in a recent interview. "It's not that immediate trauma where everyone's trying to figure out what's going on."
Joining Warren are Liv Tyler, Christopher Eccleston, Amy Brenneman, Michael Gaston, and Ann Dowd. "I think unfortunately we as citizens of the world have had a lot that's happened in the past 15 years, and people either move on or they don't," Warren adds. "That's what the show is about."
The Leftovers premieres on HBO on June 29, but check out the James Blake soundtracked trailer below to see what all the fuss is about.
