Valentine’s Day Is All About The Ladies, Thanks To Watermark Pictures

Valentine's Day isn't just about roses and chocolates. This year, celebrate by raising awareness about some serious women's issues.
For anyone who's read the news lately (especially concerning sexual assault and reproductive rights), it's clear men dominate the media's discussion of women’s issues. So, Watermark Pictures — a female-run, non-profit production company — is launching a series of short films aimed at empowering women.
“Women have been notoriously under-represented in the entertainment industry, and so have their stories," said Brianna Gardner, president of Watermark Pictures. "We hope to create a movement through this medium to not only get these important issues out in the open in a creative way, but to also demonstrate that women can hold their own as competent filmmakers."

They've dubbed the series The Fairest Project, and each short flick will highlight serious issues like rape, self-esteem, addiction, and domestic violence. And, because everything is better with a little Disney thrown in, each film will also feature a plot adapted from classic fairy tales, including The Little Mermaid, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, and Beauty and the Beast.
VDAY, a global movement to end violence against women and girls (founded by The Vagina Monologues playwright Eve Ensler), has lent its considerable support to the project. You can add your support starting February 14, when The Fairest Project starts accepting donations on February 14. You know, so you can add a little feel-good to your chocolate binge.
