Ever felt like you couldn’t possibly top a past major success? Well, super-author JK Rowling certainly knows the sentiment. After her stratospheric rise to success thanks to the global phenomena that is the Harry Potter series, Rowling recently admitted that she would “never top Harry Potter.” Serious words from a best-selling novelist, we say.
Speaking to Sky News, Rowling described the substantial wealth that Harry Potter has brought her as “incredibly marvelous and liberating.” Given that her personal fortune was estimated in 2012 to stand at over an eye-watering £500 million, the author’s modest approach to appreciating her riches makes her all the more endearing.
And, with a dreamlike career trajectory every budding writer hopes for — Rowling conceived the idea for the series about the boy wizard on a delayed train in 1990 — she shows no signs of putting down her pen. After sealing Harry Potter’s fate in the seventh and final book, Rowling has gone on to enjoy success with her adult novel, The Casual Vacancy, and The Cuckoo’s Calling, the latter penned under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith.
The author went on to say: “But what do I love doing? I love writing, so clearly I’m going to continue to write.” Whether she surpasses the success of Harry Potter in the future, we don’t know, but we’re certainly looking forward to soaking up more literary gold from Camp Rowling. (The Telegraph)
