Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but there's no new Full House sequel in the works. Multiple outlets have reported today that the much-loved '90s sitcom would get a followup series, all based on two sparse quotes attributed to series creator Jeff Franklin: "Last month I was asked by ABC and [Warner Bros.] to write a new show for the Full House characters. Everyone I’ve spoken with were very open to the idea [of returning]." Problem is, those quotes, allegedly taken from the Newport Gazette, were published on Screenrant as part of an April Fool's joke earlier this year. Ruh-roh.
How did this resurface? All signs point to a site called Disney Treasures, which lifted all of Screenrant's April story, images included. This more or less seems to be the trend on Disney Treasures, which also republished this story about Disney princesses written by Moviepilot.com's Alisha Grauso without any attribution. (Charmingly, it even keeps in the original "vote for your favorite" call-out but doesn't embed any polling widget.) It reeks of a spambot.
Uproxx's Danger Guerrero did some digging and found out that the Newport Gazette stopped publishing. "I was unable to get a comment from them on the record because they are a Rhode Island newspaper that went out of print in 1799, and everyone who worked there has been dead for well over 100 years," he writes.
