Get Excited: New Beauty Blog To Highlight Diversity And Depth

Adequate diversity in the beauty world is an ongoing struggle. While many products claim to be for every woman, few actually show the faces of every woman in their ads. As reported by The Independent, ThandieKay, a new beauty blog launching September 16, will aim to provide a space where beauty diversity is possible — and it sounds like it's going to be just what the internet was missing.
Founded by actress Thandie Newton and makeup artist Kay Montano, the goal of ThandieKay is to appeal to women across cultural divides and of all different ages — and they want to go beyond talking about someone's favorite lipstick shades. Newton told The Independent that they view beauty as a way to access much more intimate parts of someone's life. She said, "Here are people in successful positions that you think are unattainable, making themselves completely available and vulnerable... you can make yourself really vulnerable, because you're talking about something that seems quite arbitrary, but is actually one of the most powerful mechanisms for expressing yourself, for establishing who you are."

The main focus of the blog, on a larger scale? Deconstructing the very definition of beauty and reframing it in terms of how women feel about themselves. "Beauty is a feeling and a sensation much more than an actual," Newton said. "We hope that when you log on to ThandieKay you'll very quickly know that however you look and whoever you are, you're invited to the party."
We can't wait for this exciting new blog to go live — between the goals of diversity, depth, and a reworking of preconceived notions of beauty, it sounds like it will be pretty much ideal. Consider it officially added to our reading list. (The Independent)
