Egg Whites: Not As Healthy As We All Thought, Apparently

Eating healthy does not always translate into an easy and convenient lifestyle — quite the opposite actually. Time-consuming research, ingredient hunting, and label reading are the standard sacrifices for maintaining a healthy diet these days. Thus when mainstream fast-food chains like McDonald's, Subway, and Panera began offering diet-friendly alternatives on their menu, we were pretty excited. But, then we learned that some of these new menu items weren't as healthy as we initially thought, and we were a little very heartbroken.
One of the most disturbing truths came when we found out that many of our beloved egg-white breakfast sandwiches actually contained a shocking amount of added ingredients. While we can overlook Au Bon Pain for their use of butter — you do need butter to fry up an egg — we simply don't understand how preservatives like sodium benzoate and potassium sorbate founds its way into our most important meal of the day. Some places have as much as 15 additional ingredients added to their lean protein patty! Seems like eating healthy didn't get that easy after all. (Huffington Post)
