Going on Married At First Sight (MAFS) is a risk. Contestants can be painted as the "villain", causing them to lose their job or be hounded by the public, have their hearts broken, or end up walking away with the love of their life. However, there's also a possibility of an influencer career after the show is over, to capitalise on all the free exposure MAFS gets you.
But how much does it cost the average contestant to be on the show, and is it worth it? MAFS participants have to spend up to three months filming, and most of them have to take this time off work. While they do get a small stipend — a MAFS 2026 bride confirms this was about $150 per day this year — it leaves many out of pocket. That's before you get to the expenses, including hair, makeup and Dinner Party outfits.
We spoke to multiple contestants about how much they forked out during their seasons of MAFS, and the answers range from barely anything to a whopping $15,000.
