The Quick Way To Make Eye-Makeup Remover Pads At Home

Illustrated by Jasmin Valcourt.
When doctors diagnosed Indie Lee, a happy-go-lucky New Yorker, with a rare brain tumor and only six months to live, Indie Lee did the unheard of: She turned her life sentence into a life calling. Upon discovering that her tumor was likely the result of environmental factors, Indie found a new lease on life and decided to devote herself to crafting the Indie Lee Collection — an eco-friendly line of all-natural skin-care products that are sophisticated, stylish, safe, and make a difference. The struggle to remove eye makeup at the end of the day is real. Choosing a formula that's too oily can be irritating, but opting for a gentler one can mean unwanted residue. Finding a natural formula devoid of harsh chemicals that will get rid of layers of mascara, heavy liner, and powdery eyeshadow can be a downright daunting task. Of course, there's also the annoyance of making sure you have eye makeup remover on hand along with your arsenal of other beauty and skin-care products. I decided to develop an easy recipe for removing makeup in a non-irritating, non-tugging, and non-drying way. These eye makeup remover pads involve little to no DIY skill, and yet they work to dissolve even the most stubborn jet black mascara and noir eyeliner. The process is simple and I guarantee you'll become a fast fan. Good for use on all skin types, these makeup-dissolving pads moisturize too — and don't we all love a multitasking product!

The key to this formula’s success are chamomile essential oil, which is soothing and calming, even for very sensitive skin, and vitamin E, a
popular antioxidant that will help with wrinkles and dark spots. Paired together,
these two ingredients will take off makeup and leave you with majorly fresh and glowing skin.

Eye Makeup Remover Pads

Ingredients & Supplies

1/8 cup coconut oil
1/8 cup apricot kernel oil
3 drops chamomile (anthemis nobilis) essential oil
2 drops vitamin E oil
12 cotton pads
8 oz. or 4 oz. Mason jar glass bowl

Instructions
1. Place 12 cotton squares in a sterile mason jar and set aside. Since coconut oil is solid at room temperature, you'll have to warm it over a double
boiler or microwave it in a glass cup first to de-solidify it.

2. Once the coconut oil has melted (you’ll know because it’ll
turn clear), mix it with the three other ingredients in a glass bowl.

3. Pour the mixture over the cotton pads. With a craft stick or spoon,
press down on the cotton pads so they soak up as much of the oil as possible.

4. Place the cotton pads in a mason jar, and refrigerate for at least an hour at which point the pads will have hardened and be easy to separate.

5. When you're ready to use one,  just gently swipe cotton pad over eyes and let
the oils soak in for a few seconds before rinsing it off with warm water.

Finish by patting dry with a clean towel (or a dry cotton pad).
