An Antidote To The ’90s Revival (If You’re Not Into That Sort Of Thing)

We've been putting a lot of pressure on ourselves to wear this season's bold, dark lip flawlessly. And, while many lipsticks have developed long-lasting formulas that should, in theory, stay put, we've been finding ourselves plagu'd by the same feathering as always. So, the answer should just be to wear a lip liner, right? No big deal.
However, finding the right liner for a lipstick takes some skill. Our '90s revival pointedly excludes that special look in which the liner is darker than the lip color (some things just shouldn't be brought back). But, unless the liner and the lipstick are of the same brand, it can be hard to match. Enter: Merle Norman's new clear lip pencil.

Hear us out. When it comes to clear makeup, we're first in line to feel skeptical. After all, our routine involves more than enough steps already, so why add one you can't even see? The thing is, though, clear lip liner is kind of like a concentrated primer. This one in particular keeps your lips hydrated with aloe, which is especially helpful if your long-lasting lipstick is of the drying variety. It keeps lipstick in place just like any other liner — but can work with any shade. All you need is one, to use with any lipstick or gloss. Seems worth it to us.
What do you all think? Is clear lip liner your next must-use product, or does it sound potentially unnecessary?
