Tracking Copyright: How The Grey Ant Sunglasses Became The Row Sunglasses

It's impossible to believe that designers never draw inspiration from other designers, but we've traced a story of a pair of shades that deserve to be on Jerry Springer, their life has been so complex! We posted about The Row's fall sunglasses collection, and realized that one pair was a dead ringer for the eleven-dollar Carrie shades from Fred Flare. Blogs and news outlets had admonished those shades for being knock-offs of the frames coming down the Lanvin men's spring '10 runway, which were also the subject of controversy for being too similar to Grey Ant's oversized Wayfarer-esque specs. From Gray Ant to Lanvin to Fred Flare to The Row—from high-end to low-end, and then back again...these are the big sunglasses that keep getting resurrected. May we suggest that someone should start thinking a little outside of the oversized, plastic-framed box?
