Our Fave Rockers, Revealed

With the onslaught of paparazzi and gossip sites detailing every moment in celebrity life, it's easy to feel that you've seen all the "important" pictures of your favorite stars. But, Rock Paper Photo's gone and changed all that by putting together a gallery of undiscovered images from some of music's biggest icons, including never-before-seen portraits of The Beatles and Andy Warhol.
So, how exactly did Rock Paper Photo find all these pictures? CEO, Mark Halpern, explains that all it takes is a second look: "We reach out to our photographers periodically and ask them to help us uncover prints for our clients to buy. It’s then that the photographers usually find more than they had seen before. Some images existed as negatives or transparencies that the photographer hadn’t printed and were only recently rediscovered. Others have never been offered before as fine art prints until now." Thus, you're now privy to a veritable treasure trove of art that happens to make the perfect gift — even if it's more of a gift to yourself. As Halpern says, a great celebrity portrait is often one that "puts the celebrity in a different circumstance or light than we're used to." Ah, celebs, they're just like us.
Gallery 151, 132 W. 18 Street (between Sixth and Seventh Avenues); 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, November 22 through December 24. Free admission.
