Plus-Size Round-Up: Pin-Up Perfection

If there was one era of fashion in the last century that really loved a full set of curves, it was the hip-hugging, cleavage-enhancing silhouettes of the mid-century. Whether you have Dita von Teese ambitions, or want to release your inner Joan Holloway, rockabilly and pin-up styles reign supreme for the size 12+ set, with a multitude of brands to choose from. To make shopping a little bit easier, I’ve rounded up some of my favorites (with my own Mad Men desires in mind)... But, please don’t blame me if you end up wanting one of everything, a set of perfectly coiffed pin-curls, and an afternoon in a classic Chevy Bel Air.

Bettie Page Clothing—Is there any greater pin-up icon than Bettie Page? Unsurprisingly, Bettie Page Clothing offers some of the most authentic reproductions of vintage styles—with a sizing system to match, (in other words, their pieces run a little small, so size up!). Some of their full dresses may require some additional accoutrements like crinolines, but don’t worry—they stock those, too. Available in extra small - 4X.

Domino Dollhouse—The pin-up meets steampunk line, Domino Dollhouse is the brainchild of Tracy Boxterman, a bodacious pink-haired lady with killer Betsey Johnson-inspired style. The size range varies per item, but Domino Dollhouse stocks everything from 14-28.

Chic Star—There are a few things that win us over with Chic Star: 1) All their pieces are priced well under $100 (we love a budget friendly brand!). 2) They offer an extended run of plus sizes, from 18-28. 3) The majority of their pieces are designed by actual customers, through crowd-sourcing contests. Chic Star’s twirly numbers are definitely alter-ego inspiring, and if you don’t see exactly what you like, submit your own design!
