Is This The Next McQueen? Indie Designer Really Shows Off Her Chops

McQueen had to start out somewhere too, right? That's why we get particularly excited when we see an extra-imaginative new line from a debut designer. Malgorzata Dudek's spring '12 line is the first we've seen from this Polish couturier, and we have to say… we haven't been this impressed upon first appearances in a long time. For this recent collection, Malgorzata took direct inspiration from Swiss surrealist artist H.R. Giger (think steampunk meets the carbonite scene in The Empire Strikes Back meets Alien). With adapted H.R. Giger prints, her spring collection is like the most beautiful bad dream you've ever had, with dresses that look more like molting beetle shells than viable holiday options, mille-feuille bustles and bodices, and even a hat made out of mannequin legs. While the McQueen inspiration is there (and in some looks, fairly heavy-handed), but there's enough original spark in here to keep us interested for collections to come.
