8 Reasons To Be A Frill Seeker This Summer

When it comes to blouses, I have a decidedly monastic-meets-The Railway Children approach. I love a good white, frilled shirt. It's what I happen to find sexy. There's a line in Love Actually — “You're totally gonna like her, 'cause she is the sexy one” — that suggests that sexiness is one size fits all. But, what is sexy to one is not sexy to another (if I tried to wear the tight tops January Jones wore in that film, you’d have me arrested). There’s no doubt that I find a white blouse (whether pin-tucked, shirred, ruffled) as incongruously sexy as a slashed V muscle tee, in the sense that what makes a woman sexy is a blouse that suits her. I’m not saying I’m above a flash of lace triangle bra, but I am saying that what looks golden on Zoë Kravitz would look less than golden on Pandora Sykes. Don’t fight it, ad finitum.
My instinct for detailed, white blouses is basic. Quite simply, I can never have enough: Isabel Marant Étoile (several), See by Chloé, Belle Époque, Zara, Gap, Free People, and Equipment make my favorites, but there’s also a strong case for a vintage, frilled blouse (see Martha Ward for more details). Who cares if no one wants to rip your clothes off? As long as I want to rip my clothes off (dressing for oneself and whatnot), then that’s surely all that matters. Things are boding well for my wedding, then. The case — filled with white, frilly blouses — continues. Click through the slideshow to shop the look!
I’m wearing an Isabel Marant Étoile cotton blouse and Filippa K jeans (for AW15, so drops in August; current high-street version here).
