Steamed, whole, chopped, or boiled—no matter how you like 'em, carrots are amazing. And now San Franciscans can get their fashion fill of Carrots, too. That is, with the recent opening of the luxury boutique of the same name in the heart of the up-and-coming Jackson Square area. Located just two blocks from the iconic Transamerica pyramid, Carrots is owned by sisters Melissa and Catie Grimm, who came to the Bay Area by way of Bakersfield, California."There are so many other boutiques in every city with great fashion, but that's not [the only thing] we're about," says Melissa. "We want people to take their time, feel comfortable, and find a beautiful outfit without feeling pressure to buy."
Aptly-named as an homage to the family business, Grimmway Farms (the world's largest producer of baby carrots), the boutique is located inside what was once known as Ernie's, the restaurant famous for being a major scene in Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo. Over 4,000 beautifully decorated square feet are home to women's pieces from Peter Som, Thakoon, and Sari Gueron among others, not to mention menswear lines from the likes of Chimala, Band of Outsiders, and Rag & Bone. Italian vases by Venini, luxe tomes from French publisher Assouline, and jewels by New York-based Suzanne Wilson are also scattered throughout the sprawling shop.

"We talk about what's next. Maybe Baby Carrots for children or even Café Carrots," says Catie. While the well-stocked marble-top bar is not a complete café (yet), there's never a shortage of carrot cake cupcakes available for peckish shoppers.
