We realize we’re not alone in professing our design-geek obsession for Heath Ceramics’ sleek, handcrafted tablewares. A dinner-party staple for over sixty years, it brings the best and brightest potters into its showrooms and stores and is always ahead of the pottery pack. So, clearly we were thrilled when we heard Heath was opening up another shop in the Bay — this time in S.F.
To celebrate the new digs, Heath will be showing the work of yet another ceramic sage, Akio Nukaga. The renowned Japanese artist will be displaying his fresh exhibit, titled “Very New Work.” While the event will be Heath’s first gallery showing, the reception is, and we quote, “all about Akio.” Also, don’t forget to bring an appetite, as beer, wine, and a delicious array of treats will be served.
And if you just can’t get enough, the fete continues the following day with Nukaga giving eager onlookers a very special throwing demonstration. So, show up early to get a good view of the method behind his magical creations!
When: Opening Reception, Saturday, July 14, 5 to 9 p.m.;
Throwing Demonstration, Sunday, July 15, 2 p.m.
Where: Heath Ceramics, 2900 18th Street (at Florida Street), San Francisco; 415-361-5552.
