It might feel like it's way too early to be talking about Anna Wintour — gulp — leaving Vogue. But rumors are a-swirlin' that Obama is considering her (along with Matthew Barzun, finance chairman of Obama's campaign) to be the next ambassador to the U.K. or France. Wintour has been very active in Obama fundraising, hosting massive five-figure-a-plate dinners in her home.
And don't think that the London ambassador position is just a vanity job, in which Anna could helm both Vogue and a gig in politics at the same time. The White House stated that "it would be erroneous to think of London as a nice, cushy, westernized post. This is a key strategic ally, so you're going to want a very seasoned person, be it on the economic or diplomatic side of things."
A Vogue spokesperson was quick to comment that Wintour isn't interested: "She's happy with her current job." But if we've learned anything from Deborah Needleman and T Magazine, initial statements mean nothing. Rumor mill, start your engines! (Bloomberg)
