Last week, Selena Gomez had us wishing for a cool fall day in her adorably edgy, high-low outfit. Well, now Olivia Palermo is really making us desperate for autumn to usher in optimum layering weather. Not only did she deftly style one of the trickiest wardrobe items — the sleeveless coat (a.k.a. the vest) — but the style star also pulled off some impressive plaid mixing. And Palermo managed to make the double-tartan look feel anything but grungy.
It should also be noted that, like Selena’s transitional look, Olivia’s ensemble is a skillfully engineered high-low combination. She scored early dibs on a Thakoon for Kohl’s DesigNation wooly-textured long vest, ingeniously transforming it into a dress. She layered it over a light Rails button-up in a varying buffalo check with a similar color palette. To create proportion and add an elegant accent, she cinched her waistline with a thin, white leather belt. She tripled up on checkered designs with a whimsical matching Les Petits Joueurs top-handle bag. She finished off the look with signature tortoiseshell Westward Leaning sunnies, and proved that her recycled Jimmy Choo grosgrain bow-embellished flats really do go with everything.
