From the very first moment we heard "Unbreakable! They alive, dammit," we were hooked on Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. Luckily, eternal optimist Kimmy, her mellifluous roommate Titus Andromedon, and the rest of their motley crew are coming back to Netflix for a second season of Tina Fey and Jack Burditt's wonderfully wacky sitcom. What's in store for Kimmy and the gang? Actress Ellie Kemper and executive producer Jack Burditt spilled a few season 2 details on Monday, June 8, during an Emmy panel at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre. The Hollywood Reporter chronicled the event. For Kemper, the most exciting development for her character during season 2 will be the appearance of her mother, which will test Kimmy's strength — even more than being stuck underground in a doomsday cult for most of her life. "What I know about [Kimmy's mother] is that she wore short skirts and maybe wasn't the most attentive mother, so it might be a sad revelation who the mother was," Kemper said. She wouldn't reveal who would step into said short skirts on the show, "because what if a woman gets insulted that I said they could play my mom? So I'll just name my mom, Dotty Kemper." Jack Burditt told THR that season 2 would delve more into Titus and Lillian's backgrounds. "We're going to get more into [Titus'] past, and his wife [who] showed up at the end of season 1... [W]e don't really still know a lot about him, so we're looking forward to finding out more about him. Lillian, we really want to get into what her whole background is." Burditt also promised more weirdness like Daddy's Boy and other 30 Rock alums dropping by in guest-starring roles. He said that the second season would be more about Kimmy moving on with her life and away from her 15 years in the bunker, but Cindy, Gretchen, and the other mole women will occasionally pop up. 'Cause they alive, dammit! Females are strong as hell. And now for that "Peeno Noir." (THR)
