Cannes Is Banning “Ridiculous & Grotesque” Selfies

Drop the iPhone and step away from the red carpet. French organizers are putting the "Cannes" in can't this month. Following a similar rule at Monday night's Met Costume Gala, Cannes officials are instituting an unofficial ban on seflies on the red carpet. What that means is that movie stars can probably still get away with snapping away, but they'll be made to feel really, really bad about it. "You never look as ugly as you do in a selfie," Cannes Film Festival director Thierry Fremaux said when announcing the ban, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Fremaux added that selfies were "ridiculous and grotesque." He's clearly not a Kim Kardashian fan then. The rule is hoped to reduce foot traffic on the red carpet.  "We don't want to prohibit it, but we want to slow down the process of selfies on the steps," Fremaux added, referring to the celebrity-clogged Palais.

Will celebs do organizers a solid and stop the self-papping? Cheer up, kids
— they didn't say anything about a ban on photobombing.
