Rodarte Releases Sneaker Collab, Fashion Girls Everywhere Freak Out

Once reserved almost exclusively for the gym or quick errands as a matter of necessity, sneakers have soared in status in recent fashion seasons. On the sidewalks outside of New York Fashion Week this month, they continued to hold their own against style heavyweights, like platform pumps and edgy oxfords. And, with good reason: They're easy on our arches. So, it's not as surprising as it might have been, say, five years ago, that Rodarte's Laura and Kate Mulleavy have teamed up with Italian shoe brand Superga for a capsule collection of casual sneaks.

The six-piece range — available to shop at Superga today — employs the designers' BFF Gia Coppola as lookbook muse. "I was in really good company, so it just felt like family and that we were all hanging out," Coppola told us about the shoot. "I loved seeing how Colin Dodgson, the photographer, worked. I think it was good for me, in terms of directing, to understand how it feels to be on the opposite end." The part-time sneaker model actually introduced the Rodarte duo to the brand, Laura Mulleavy told Style.com
The resulting line is simplistic in the way that Superga has alway been, but not without a few whimsical touches we've come to expect from Rodarte: Mesh overlays, embossed leather snakeskin, and denim bring personality into the pairs. "The shoes look great," exclaimed Coppola. "[Rodarte] really knows how to make a fun, new twist but still keep [the sneakers] understated enough to wear with anything." Click ahead for Coppola's laid-back styling tips and to shop to collaboration while it's still in stock — we're not expecting that to be long.
