Jessica Chastain: Page Six Has It All Wrong

Page Six recently ran a headline saying Jessica Chastain told Glamour she wanted anyone but Meryl Streep to have lead roles in Hollywood. And, since Hollywood bows at the feet and fears the Merylgency (remember when everyone got their undies in a bunch over Jennifer Lawrence's "I beat Meryl" speech?), people reacted. The reaction, however, was superfluous.
The point Chastain was trying to make was that there needs to be more opportunities in Hollywood for women of Meryl Streep's age to play leading roles. "I’m really, really supportive of women in Hollywood," Chastain's original Glamour quote reads. "I love Meryl Streep. She’s such an incredible actress. But I feel like she’s the only one in her age group who gets those parts." Chastain then drops a few stellar actresses' names like Jessica Lange and Viola Davis for good measure.

Following Page Six's post, Chastain took to WhoSay to clarify her statement.
It's not about taking a role, it's about creating them. This was Chastain's call to arms. It's time to put pen to paper. (Just Jared)
