It's not that we avoid it on purpose — it's just that our day-to-day business doesn't often take us to the predominantly tourist destination. Still, there are many landmarks in that area we love — and one of them is the Ed Sullivan Theater, home to The Late Show With David Letterman. With the news of Stephen Colbert taking over The Late Show, however, Governor Andrew Cuomo is concerned the show will move to California. As such he's urging CBS president and CEO Leslie Moonves to keep the program in the iconic space.
In a statement, Cuomo argues that both the show and its audience are inextricably linked with NYC: "With East Coast-based host Stephen Colbert taking the reins of the 'Late Show,' it's clear we should keep the show where it belongs — here in New York." CBS hasn't yet decided where the show will film, but Colbert has said he'll be keeping his current staff. So, if it doesn't stay in New York, Colbert's team will have to move, too. Anticipating the relocation, the State of California has started discussing creating tax incentives for moving the program. But, can you imagine the Ed Sullivan Theater without that lit-up marquee? We certainly can't. (Variety)
