Healthbook, Apple’s Latest App, Is Totally Amazing

For years, Apple has made a reputation for itself as the company that repeatedly transforms our lives in ways we didn't think possible (or even really necessary). First, it was the iPod, then the iPhone, followed by the iPad. And, now, everyone's favorite tech behemoth is gearing up to completely revolutionize the way we think about something else: our health.
New details have emerged about Healthbook, a long-rumored app that is believed to be one of the new selling points for Apple's next mobile operating system, iOS 8. Mark Gurman at 9to5Mac has taken the app for a spin, putting together a list of its killer features — and it's a long list, people. The app tracks and displays your physical activity data and weight information, taking cues from existing offerings from FitBit and Nike. That's pretty much where the similarities end, though. With the ability to measure data on heartbeat, hydration levels, sleep habits, blood sugar, blood pressure, and a number of other health metrics, the app looks an awful lot like a game changer.
Maybe even more exciting, though, is what this could mean about other concepts Apple has up its sleeve. Rumors have been swirling for years about an "iWatch" device that would compete with Samsung's Gear smart watches. Especially in light of Samsung's new Gear Fit, which promises to blow Fitbit, Nike Fuelband, and co. out of the water when it drops next month, now might be the perfect time for Apple to join the party.
