Stevie Nicks: “Follow Your Muse” & Other Great Life Advice

Stevie Nicks, fresh from blowing our minds with her incredible performance in American Horror Story, reveals she’s pretty good at giving advice about life in general, too. In an interview with The New York Times, the Fleetwood Mac superstar shares her coping mechanism for dealing with anger. And, it involves Lady Gaga. As she explains: “If I’ve learned nothing else, it’s that time passes and anger doesn’t do you much good… When things happen that upset me I try to do something that makes me happy. Right now I put on Lady Gaga’s 'Applause' and dance around the house.”
Nicks is equally candid about her love life. For any would-be suitors, she’s just fine on her own, thank you very much. She offers this insight into the life she leads: “I live a single woman’s life and yes, I spend a lot of time by myself… Would I be willing to have a boyfriend? It would be fun if I could find a boyfriend who understood my life and didn’t get his feelings hurt because I’m always a phone call away from having to leave in two hours for New York,” she says. “It’s not very much fun to be Mr. Stevie Nicks. In the last 10 years, I’ve just said I’m going to follow my muse. If I want to go somewhere I don’t have to worry about anyone being mad at me. I don’t have to make up excuses on the phone about why I’m not coming home.” That sounds like a pretty good plan to us.
While we love the camaraderie and intimacy of being with someone, a relationship status isn't required to find joy. “Following your muse” is an excellent way to focus on who and what makes you happy and inspired. If the result is a top-10 worldwide hit, even better. (The New York Times)
