We didn’t think it looked too shabby in the first place, but the Alexander McQueen flagship store on Bond Street has undergone a complete makeover. The two-story building has just re-opened, and gives an even greater insight into the world of McQueen.
The space is devoted to showcasing the inspirations that make this label what it is. Each wall is covered in bespoke paneling, which depicts mushroom gills, cactus flowers, seahorse tails, and tangled leaves. Even the label’s celebrated “armadillo” shoes are tributed, by the curves in the moulding, no less. The boutique is dedicated to womenswear and accessories, only (sorry boys, you’ll have to go to the brand’s Savile Row store for your shopping needs). As Sarah Burton says, “It’s very McQueen to see something from a distance and think it’s one thing and then look up close and discover it is something else. It’s important to us that everything in the stores feels very precious.” Intriguing. Make sure you pop by and see for yourself. No excuses.
