Every once and a while, we struggle with the Sunday blues. But if there’s one thing that gets us feeling bubbly, it’s — well — a whole lot of bubbly. So, we were a little punch-drunk when we heard about this new brunch deal at The Monarch: For a mere $15, you can order up a bottomless mimosa with your brunch.
The mimosas here are made with blood-orange puree (fancy!), and the food goes far beyond bacon and eggs. Toast comes slathered in strawberry jam and foie-gras mousse, for example, while blue-crab cakes top the eggs Benedict.
As for the setting? The Wicker Park spot has all the trappings of a Chicago-style bar (exposed brick walls and low-slung tables — check and check). But the “monarch” theme adds a bit of princely panache, with candles dripping in silver sticks and a menu that looks handwritten by a royal scribe. In the last days of summer, grab a seat on the quaint patio, wrapped in mint-green walls and blossoming with fresh herbs.
