While there has been a lot to dislike about the news in 2017, we nevertheless found bright spots where we could. Thankfully, our favorite celebrities gave us plenty of reasons to smile, and those reasons often involved food. Just like the rest of us, celebs aren't immune from the charms of milkshakes and banana bread. Who doesn't love Taco Bell, right Lili Reinhart?
Of course, other times we were reminded just how unique the lifestyles of the rich and famous are, from legal name changes to Foodgōd to footwear switch-ups that make headlines.
Ahead, our 11 favorite celeb food moments from 2017. May 2018 bring more banana bread, bedazzled cups, and fewer reasons to sheetcake.

Meghan Markle's "Engagement Chicken"

Did a roast chicken spark the latest royal engagement? We seriously doubt it, given that Prince Harry had previously had to ask the Queen's permission to propose to his fiancé. That didn't stop Twitter from speculating that the internet-famous "engagement chicken," (a roast chicken that allegedly gets men to propose) could be to blame. Magic recipes aside, roast chicken has long been a staple of Markle's so the odds of a meal-based proposal happening while it was in the oven seems fairly high.

J.Lo's Super-Extra Starbucks Cup

When you're Jennifer Lopez, no normal Starbucks cup will do. That was the thinking behind a gift from her long-time manicurist, Elle Gerstein. Gerstein gifted J.Lo a one-of-a-kind Starbucks cup that soon caught the eye of the paparazzi. As Refinery29 reported first, the artist behind it is Teneka Moore, whose business, TaylorMadeBling, Gerstein found via Instagram.

Chrissy Teigen's Banana Bread Quest

While its nearly impossible to narrow down all of Chrissy Teigen's amazing food revelations to just one moment, that honor would have to go to her quest for the perfect bananas. Banana bread is typically made with overripe bananas, and Teigen found herself short as she was testing out a recipe for her forthcoming cookbook. One lucky follower, Meg Zukin, wound up being picked to share her produce. Zukin told Refinery29 that she had to share a video of her eating the bananas. They were then picked up by none other than Teigen's mom, who gave Zukin the promised Becca palette, cookbook, and, it appears in the photo, a pair of John Legend's underwear.

Foodgōd's Official Name Change

Back in November, Jonathan Cheban, known for both being a Kardashian BFF and also over-the-top food Instagrammer, announced to Page Six his intention to take his love of food a step further and become legally known as Foodgōd. The soon-to-be-more-than-a-nickname was bestowed upon him by none other than Kanye West, but has taken on a life of its own. "Everyone calls me Foodgōd," he told Page Six, "I want people calling me Foodgōd when they write about me — not Jonathan or ‘BFF.'"

Gordon Ramsay Eats "Trash"

If you're opinionated enough about something enough times, it may just come back to haunt you. Gordon Ramsay found that out the hard way after his one-man campaign against pineapple on pizza eventually came full-circle with him eating some live on air. The real reason he finally gave in was heartwarming – he said he would do it if he raised enough money for charity. Ever the showman, Ramsay followed up two bites of the pizza with mouthwash.

Lili Reinhart's Fast Food Love

In Riverdale, the gang usually sticks to Pop's for their fast food fix. But, in real life, Lili Reinhart, who plays Betty Cooper, is much more diverse in her dining. Over the past year, she's taken to social media to share a love of Domino's, Chipotle, and Taco Bell. She even noted in one Instagram story, "Not sponsored by Chipotle, though I wish I was." Sounds like a good New Year's resolution for 2018.

Kelis Reveals Why Her Milkshake Really Brings The Boys To The Yard

While the song "Milkshake" is over a decade old, there was a reason we just couldn't get it out of our head back in September. Kelis, who had never actually made a milkshake when the song was released in 2003, revealed her current recipe as part of a partnership with Bailey's. So what does someone whose name is now inextricably linked to the cold beverage, put to make her milkshake more than average? Ginger beer, chocolate ice cream, and a dash of Cayenne pepper to start.

Kim's Lesson In Orange Fruits

Lest we think that oranges are the only orange fruit, on the 4th of July Kim Kardashian-West shared a picture of orange watermelon captured... "Orange Watermelon." Why was it served? How does it taste? Does she like it? In an age where the daily minutiae of her entire family is exhaustively chronicled, this was a rare example of something Kardashian-adjacent we don't know anything about.

Ellen & Oprah Go Shopping

No stranger to being silly with celebrities in public, this year Ellen DeGeneres took Oprah to the grocery store. While the ostensible reason was to help promote Oprah's new food line, O, That's Good!, DeGeneres still managed to work in a lot of hilarious moments. Our favorite? When she lets the entire store know "Oprah's touched all the peaches, everybody! Whoever wants a peach, Oprah's touched them!"

Tina Fey Gives Us "Sheet-Caking"

There were a lot of moments this year that made us want to scream or despair, and, in August, Tina Fey gave us a new option: sheet-caking. The comedian and SNL alum appeared on the show to give a personal response to the protests (and ensuing violence) in Charlottesville.

Fey, who went to UVA, told viewers “I would urge people this Saturday, instead of participating in screaming matches and potential violence, find a local business you support, maybe a Jewish-run bakery or an African-American bakery. Order a cake with an American flag on it and just eat it.”

Kylie Jenner's (Other) Mystery

We may go into 2018 with our biggest question about Kylie Jenner still unanswered. No, it's not "Is she pregnant," it's "Does she have a frozen yogurt machine in her closet?!" While everyone was busy close-reading every social post of Jenner's, we noticed something potentially decadent on her Snapchat: A soft-serve machine in what appears to be her pantry. Talk about the perfect midnight snack.
