Any haircut can be scary, but when the words pixie cut enter the conversation, you see some women instantly blanch — and that's totally understandable. When you're dealing with a cut that's so short, you'll inevitably have to go through the dreaded (and usually incredibly awkward) growing-out phase. But, instead of panicking, consider this: Vogue thinks growing out your pixie is A-okay.
Hairstylist James Pecis, who styled Jennifer Lawrence's locks for her latest Christian Dior ad, believes there is a certain freedom in your hair's growing pains. "There's a nonchalance that makes it modern," he says. And, you have women like Miley Cyrus and Michelle Williams (as well as Lawrence) to thank for that. They put their growing-out phases on display, proving that when you think your hair is too gawky to even consider leaving your apartment, you can still rock a red carpet with the best of 'em.
Pecis' No. 1 tip for avoiding any blundering coiff moments? Experiment with brushing your hair in different directions. And, when in doubt, lean into your favorite texturizing products. Be sure to check out the rest of Pecis' expert step-by-step styling suggestions on Vogue. A pixie isn't so scary anymore, is it?
