Poppy King’s New Lipsticks Are Hella Expensive, But Also, Really Awesome

The Lipstick Queen herself, Poppy King, is expanding her lippie-centric repertoire. In September, the beauty mogul is launching Velvet Rope, a five-piece lipstick line inspired by the power and glamour of '40s movie stars.
King created this line to be the "lipstick of her childhood dreams" — meaning, a weightless formula with high pigments that create a high-drama look fast. To create this magical formula, King employed a futuristic silicone elastomer, which creates full color payoff in only one swipe. King also included moisturizing ingredients to ensure a pampering experience, as well as peppermint oil for an extra element of je ne sais quoin: “Mint is an action trigger,” said King. “The mint scent makes the wearer feel invigorated into whatever she has to get done that day/evening.”

Housed in a weighty gold tube and adorned with blue velvet secondary packaging, Velvet Rope lipsticks are meant to give the wearer a sense of empowerment and luxury through beauty. While they're not cheap (the lipsticks will retail for a whopping $50 each — that's even more than our beloved Tom Ford lippies), we have to admit that we're always suckers for high-quality, beautiful cosmetics. The line will be available in-stores at Barneys New York and Space NK, as well as at Lipstick Queen. (WWD)
