Free events are hard to resist, especially when they're jam-packed with culture and creativity — that's why the annual Smithsonian Folklife Festival tops our to-do list. With seven days of chef demonstrations, dance performances, and photography exhibits ahead, it's easy to feel a little overwhelmed. Luckily, we've picked out three can't-miss activities so you can plan your time wisely.
Today's going to be hot, so what better way to cool down than with ice cream? Head over to the Test Kitchen to see pros whip up cold treats from goats' milk.
When: Today, June 30, and Saturday, July 7, at 4 p.m.

We would argue that every event is a teeny bit better when shopping is involved. Don't miss the Marketplace, which is open daily and features local, national, and international artists and crafters. Expect to see jewelry, textiles, food, and more.
When: Today through July 1, and July 4 through July 8, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
In honor of Chuck Brown Tribute Day next Saturday, the Citified section of the festival will honor the godfather of go-go with a day-long series of events. Be there for Go-Go Fitness, a Zumba-esque class where you can work out to the sounds of D.C.'s native genre.
When: Saturday, July 7, at 3:30 p.m.
