Mity Nice Grill
Though we would normally suggest getting one of the incredible burgers at this Water Tower Place restaurant, tonight the spotlight is on eats like garlic-crusted whitefish, chopped liver (including a vegetarian version we're oh-so curious about), kasha varnishkes, challah bread, flourless chocolate cake, and much more. The family-style feast is $34.95 per person; $17.95 for kids ages 12 and under.
Mity Nice Grill, 835 North Michigan Avenue (between Pearson and Chestnut Streets), 312-335-4745.
Joe's Seafood, Prime Steak & Stone Crab
One of our favorite go-to weekend dinner spots for crab legs and key lime pie is offering a special Rosh Hashanah dinner made up of dishes like broiled lemon-herb chicken breast, wild Alaskan halibut, homemade gefilte fish with red beet horseradish, and homemade apple pie for $45.95 per person.
Joe's Seafood, Prime Steak & Stone Crab, 60 East Grand Avenue (between Ohio and Illinois Streets), 312-379-5637.
Glenview House
Normally a great place for elevated bar fare and a satisfying sandwich, the rustic and cozy Glenview House is offering a traditional four-course dinner, including matzo ball soup, roasted apple and pomegranate salad, brisket with oven baked potatoes, and a grilled carrot cake muffin with cream cheese frosting for dessert. The cost is $30 per person.
Glenview House, 1843 Glenview Road (at Depot Street), Glenview, 847-724-0692.
Lawry's The Prime Rib
There aren't too many changes to this menu other than the fact that it's being offered family style versus à la carte — and maybe the matzo ball soup that's been added. Its famous prime rib and spinning bowl salad is paired alongside fare like grilled salmon, Yorkshire pudding, and an ice cream sundae sampler. The price is $59 per adult and $22 for children.
Lawry's The Prime Rib, 100 East Ontario Street (at Rush), 312-787-5000.
Mon Ami Gabi
While we don't typically think of a French bistro as a place for Rosh Hashanah dinner, the Lincoln Park favorite is offering a prix-fixe menu of traditional faves, like matzo ball soup, seared Atlantic salmon, and noodle kugel and apple tarte tatin with caramel sauce. Don't worry. The croque-monsieur will always be there. The cost is $34.95 for adults and $16.95 for children 12 and under.
Mon Ami Gabi, 2300 North Lincoln Park West (at Belden Avenue), 773-348-8886.
The Bagel
From soup bowls as big as fish bowls to fresh lox and bagels with homemade cream cheese, we love this Lakeview haunt even when it's not the Jewish New Year. Tonight, you can enjoy a candlelit prix-fixe dinner with dishes such as oven-roasted brisket, broiled Lake Superior whitefish, sweet and sour meatballs, gefilte fish, and honey cake for $32 per adult and $15 for kids 10 and under.
The Bagel, 3107 North Broadway Avenue (between Barry Avenue and Briar Place), 773-477-0300.
Osteria Via Stato
Crispy, thin pizzas? Not on this menu. The special, four-course meal includes dishes such as fennel-crusted flounder, crispy polenta cake, slow-braised beef short rib, gefilte fish, and a double chocolate tart. The cost is $39.95 per person.
Osteria Via Stato, 640 North State Street (between Ohio and Ontario Streets), 312-642-8450.
