Get In Line: Hedi Slimane’s Epic MOCA Show Opens Saturday

Hedi Slimane’s back! Instead of so-cool-it-hurts sunnies or wasp-emblazoned silk ties, he’s bringing his deft photography skills to the MOCA for his new exhibit, "California Song."
Premiering this Saturday, November 12, it's the first west coast solo outing of former Dior Homme designer Slimane’s work, which has been billed as the primary impetus for the "online photo diary" movement. While the show's brooding male model shots and rockstar snaps are to be (awesomely) expected, the second floor's sonic, motion-photography installation and performance art space will excite even the most fanatic Slimane stalker. “Hedi Slimane has created a new and fresh visual language for youth today,” says MOCA Director Jeffrey Deitch (whose first offering as director was September's controversial Banksy exhibit). Mom and Dad, don't forget to bring a dictionary. Now if only we could find out if he'll ever design again...
November 12 to January 22, MOCA Pacific Design Center, 8687 Melrose Avenue (near North Doheny Drive); 310-657-5730. Free admission.
