Watch Out Tartine! Craftsman & Wolves On Valencia Is About To Blow Up

Craftsman-Wolves 05
As if the roster of cool spots in the Mission could get any longer, we've got another solid destination to add to your must-hit list. That'd be Valencia Street's newest pâtisserie-cum-coffee shop, Craftsman & Wolves. The brand-new venue, which opens Saturday, June 16, is the first project from Outfit Generic, a five-person foodie collective helmed by William Werner, founder of Tell Tale Preserve Company and the former executive pastry chef at Quince.
And, before we get to the food, let's just talk about the space. Decked out in a simple palette of chalkboard black and white, with soaring ceilings accented by exposed wood beams and a solo brick wall, the modern-meets-rustic space is utterly chic. The simple surroundings also allow the grub to sit squarely as the focal point. And boy is it a feast for the eyes (and mouth).

There are super-moist muffins and breads of both the sweet and savory varieties. For the former group, we especially love the chocolate-y "rebel within," blackberry lemon "travel cake," and the caramel, lavender, and soft-chocolate eclair. Meanwhile, there are artisanal salads, sammies, and "picnic box" specials to get you through lunchtime, delectable cube cakes for special occasions (raspberry, coconut, earl grey, and almond, anyone?), and Sightglass coffee, haute hot cocoas, and teas to keep folks trudging along all day day long. Tartine, watch your back.
Craftsman & Wolves, 746 Valencia Street (between 18th and 19th streets); 415-913-7713.
