5 Juice Bars To Kick-Start Your New Year’s Resolutions

p2
Biting off that gingerbread man's sugary head and downing another glass of bubbly seemed like an excellent idea until you slipped on that slightly snug skirt this morning. Forget bulky sweaters. There's no better way to beat the bloat than with a delicious (and nutritious) elixir from one of Chicago's fabulous juice bars.
Whether you want to start a full-blown detox program, or simply sip something healthier than buttered rum, here's five of our favorite spots for getting an instantaneous fruit and veggie infusion. Sure, there's no such thing as a quick fix — but we promise you'll feel a heck of a lot better than you did the morning of New Year's Day.

Do you have a fave super concoction or juice emporium? Tell us! After all, there's more than one way to squeeze an orange.

Peeled

We loved that this JB is in close proximity to two other healthy spots: Fitness Formula Club and the massive Lincoln Park Whole Foods. Something else to feel good about? All of the cold-pressed juices, nut milks, smoothies, and booster shots are made in-house with ingredients from local farmers. If you're feeling adventurous, try the classic three-day cleanse or detox meal plan. And, for those of you that don't find it so easy being green, there's also a one-day cleanse.

Peeled, 1571 North Sheffield Avenue (between North Avenue and Kingsbury Street); 312-266-7335.

Mana Food Bar

There's so much more than juice at Mana (vegan sliders anyone?). But if you're craving some liquid love, you can choose your own blend from a variety of fruits, veggies, and "super foods" like bananas and almond milk. If you're having a cheat day, you can opt to add a little sake or vodka to your otherwise healthful cocktail.

Mana Food Bar, 1742 West Division Street (between Hermitage Avenue and Wood Street); 773-342-1742.

Protein Bar

One of our favorite lunch destinations also churns out its own raw juices using fresh fruits and veggies like apples, cucumbers, beets, and carrots. The juices are designed to cleanse and detoxify and include no sugar or artificial liquids. Our favorite? The Greenberry, made with kale, lime, apple, strawberry, and cilantro. Take that, 3 p.m. slump!

Green Corner

If you've gone the Blueprint Cleanse route before, give a little local love and try one of Green Corner's house-made juice cleanses. While its detoxifying programs follow a similar philosophy, you also get the benefit of customization based on your individual dietary needs. Alternatively, if you're just looking for a nutritious way to wet your whistle, there's a variety of freshly squeezed organic juices and smoothies like the Winter Cure, a blend of carrot, orange, apple, and zesty ginger.

Green Corner, 1880 North Damen Avenue (between Moffat and Cortland Streets); 773-292-4393.

Karyn's Fresh Corner Cafe

Karyn Calabrese is Chicago's (gorgeous) raw-food queen — but even those of us who still prefer to cook our food can enjoy her delish selection of fresh-squeezed juices, shakes, and smoothies. Forget that Egg McMuffin. Start your day off on the right note with the Morning Lift Off, a simple blend of apples and kale. For lunch on-the-go, try the Green Meal shake, a filling elixir made with apple juice, Rejuvelac, banana, flax oil, and lecithin.

Karyn's Fresh Corner Cafe, 1901 North Halsted Street (between Armitage Avenue and Wisconsin Street); 312-255-1590.
