Channeling Buddy Holly’s Nerd-Rock Style

I don't know about you, but there was a moment in my suburban New Jersey high school in which Weezer was everything. The group's approachable music — about pulled sweaters, crushes, and surfing — spoke to me. And, so did frontman Rivers Cuomo's choice to skip the denim-and-leather rocker uniform in favor of the thick-frame glasses, khakis, button-downs, and hoodies that I was wearing, too.
Weezer's self-titled LP debuted way back in 1994. But, the hit that practically put the band on the map — and ensured it had major staying power — was "Buddy Holly." Yeah, that single came out 20 years ago. Crazy. Maybe I didn't know exactly who Buddy Holly was at first, but when I got schooled on the electric-guitar pioneer, it became clear that he was as influential to Weezer's style as the band had been to mine.
So, it's time to pay some respect. Click through to see a round-up that celebrate Buddy Holly — the man and the track — with smart suits, thick knits, and geek-chic specs that are completely wearable for this transitional weather. Then, sing along: "Ooo-wee-ooo I look just like Buddy Holly..."
