Barre Hopping: 4 Local Spots To Try The Latest Fitness Craze

lavabarrehangingagainstbarslide
We can safely say that D.C. has finally made it as a barre town, especially now that Pure Barre is set to open in Dupont on Friday. The boom in low-impact exercise classes has yielded a bounty of studios around town where you can tuck, lift, and plié your way to a more chiseled body. We've rounded up four of our favorites, where you'll perform small, Pilates-and dance-based movements at — you guessed it — a ballet barre, ultimately working your way toward a long, lean physique. Head to these locations to tone up and (eventually) show off a beach-ready bod.

b.fit DC
This Logan Circle studio promises a hearty mix of strength training, Pilates, and ballet barre work that creates long, lean muscles. We give this studio extra props for a sense of humor — all b.fit instructors are called “barre-tenders.”
b.fit DC, 1339 14th Street NW, Suite 3; 202-332-0377.

Lava Barre
At Arlington’s only barre studio, choose from six different classes (cardio, core, stretch, pre/post-natal, "lavalicious," and "lavalates") that will give you a toned and lengthened figure that’s as hot as — here it comes — lava. As an added bonus, you can train your eyes on local artworks (the studio rotates works by local artists each month) even when your muscles are shaking from all that hard work.
Lava Barre, 3260 Wilson Blvd, 2nd Floor, Arlington; 571-483-0468.

Pure Barre
Each Pure Barre sweat session will have you performing small isometric movements that deliver a coveted blend of toned thighs, abs, and arms, with opportunities to lift your derriere and burn fat, too.
Pure Barre, 2130 P Street NW; 202-870-1799. Opens on Friday, April 19.

Xtend Barre DC
Founded by a dancer and choreographer who has performed with the likes of Aaron Carter and Enrique Iglesias, Xtend Barre combines Pilates and dance to deliver a total-body workout. The result? A strengthened and lengthened bod and a happier you.
Xtend Barre DC, 1228 Blagden Alley NW; 202-289-2020.
