The chickens have come home to roost on Shameless, and the Gallagher house is looking more familiar than ever as a result. The Showtime series that aired its 100th episode earlier this month is now coming to a pause after Sunday night’s “Down Like the Titanic.” Episode 7 marked the midseason finale, and fans have to wait until January to see what happens to their favorite Southside brood when the ninth season returns.
News about the sudden exit of cast members Cameron Monaghan (who made his final appearance on the show last week) and Emmy Rossum (who will not be returning after the ninth season) has left us struggling to figure out what direction the show is headed in. And it looks like Jeremy Allen White might go on paternity leave. But the midseason finale was refreshingly true to the original theme of Shameless: a dysfunctional poor family on the south side of Chicago can’t catch a break thanks to a cocktail of circumstances and poor personal decisions. “Down Like the Titanic” seemed to put all of the Gallaghers back in their rightful place.
