Kim Kardashian has come a long way from organizing the closets of Beverly Hills socialites (#TBT). Now, every one of her moves is closely followed, examined, and scrutinized — and when she uses that attention to demonstrate something of substance, it really gets interesting. Never is that attention more omnipresent than during the reality star's pregnancies.
Kardashian-West been quite candid and open about her struggles to conceive. So it's no surprise Kim is using fashion — one of her favorite mediums — as a way to celebrate the fact that she's once again expecting. She fully embraces her pregnancy, utilizing her sartorial choices to flaunt, highlight, and accentuate her growing belly, as opposed to hiding it under stretchy, baggy clothing. And girl is killing it.
There was no shortage of great fashion moments from Kardashian-West's pregnancy with first-born (and toddler style sensation) North. But none of them included the standard flowy-tunic-and-muumuu fare one would expect to find on offer at any given maternity section. One of the most memorable was, of course, her Met Gala debut. Kim was clad in a long-sleeved (and gloved), allover floral print gown by Riccardo Tisci for Givenchy — which, like any formfitting silhouette, is meant to highlight every curve of one's frame. Tisci had a hand in one of Kim's most standout pregnancy looks for Baby West #2, too: She arrived at Givenchy's Spring '16 show in New York decked in a custom look from the brand that put the spotlight on her thinly veiled belly.
Granted, Kim has the luxury of calling on her many fashion industry friends to create custom maternity looks. (Don't hold out for Balmain Maternity.) But we have to give Kim K. props for showing that pregnancy isn't something you should use try to hide. Ahead, nine times Kim K. has said "fuck it" to textbook maternity style.
