Spring Breakers 2 Means It’s Really Forever This Time

When all the debauchery settled and Day-Glo hangovers set in as Spring Breakers' Ashley Benson and Vanessa Hudgens rode off into the Florida nightlife, spring break was all but over. The original group of four college girls spending stolen money on the ideal MTV vacation had been whittled down to two; their kingpin leader gone; and innocence lost to a gun-smattering finale that no neon-lit club blaring Skrillex could handle. The "spring break forever" chant audiences heard as Selena Gomez, Rachel Korine, Hudgens, Benson, and James Franco lost themselves to Floridian hedonism ended up being a foreboding omen.
Harmony Korine's wildly underrated, controversial film Spring Breakers will continue in a new sequel. Screen Daily reports that a sequel to the 2013 film is in the works. The Cannes Film Festival Film Market list was released touting Spring Breakers: The Second Coming. Wild Bunch's Vincent Maraval told Screen Daily it won't be a direct sequel, but will feature "allusions to some of the characters in the original." No casting has been set in stone, so whomever the spring breakers are this time around could be coming up against an extreme Christian sect — similar to the one Selena Gomez's Faith character rebelled against in the first film — bent on converting them. Though, how Jonas Åkerlund, the sequel's director, plans on topping one of last year's most, erm, adventurous sex scenes will be interesting to see. Blowing shafts of firearms can only feel so fresh for so long. (Huffington Post)
